Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic has now begun affecting sports, not juts on a national level with the Premier League and Football Leagues being suspended for example, but increasingly it is affecting grassroots sports too.

More than 1,000 men, women and children head down to Waterloo Road every Saturday to play rugby. Southport RUFC has enjoyed a tremendous renaissance over the past few years, with huge investment in the facilities and the development of a fast, exciting brand of rugby.
Southport is famous for being ‘England’s Golf Coast’. Our town and the surrounding area boasts a number of famous courses including: Royal Birkdale, Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale, Hesketh, Southport Old Links, Southport Links, Formby Hall, Formby, and more besides.
Football fans regularly turn up at the Pure Stadium to enjoy watching Southport FC. The club’s main honour is winning the 1972–73 Football League Fourth Division Championship and they have won a number of titles in non-league football. The Southport & District Football League boasts a number of great sides, while local 5-a-side and 7-a-side leagues also exist.
Southport & Birkdale have been proud hosts of Lancashire County Cricket Club matches at various levels, and also boast their own fine cricket sides, in addition to other sports including tennis and hockey. You can also enjoy great cricket at venues including Fleetwood Hesketh, Southport Trinity, Ainsdale, and more.
