A campaign has been launched to get our beautiful Botanic Gardens in Southport blooming again and to help the park’s wildlife.
People are being urged to support the fundraiser for the landmark gardens in Churchtown with funding and support hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
Local resident Gemma Briscoe has now started a campaign to buy more flowers for the park, and to install a fountain and air filter in the lake to help local wildlife including the park’s famous swans and their cygnets.
She said: “Due to lack of funding our park is almost flowerless.
“I want to raise money to purchase a fountain and air filter for the lake to improve the water quality.

“The lake is home to a lot of wildlife. I want to improve the water quality so the wildlife can thrive.
“It is currently the home to a pair of swans who come back every year to nest.
“This year they have eight cygnets and I am looking to get the lake fountain fitted as soon as possible.
“In the last few years the cygnets haven’t survived. Rather than take them away I want to improve their environment so they can live here happily and be enjoyed by the many visitors who use this free public park.
“With the remainder of the fundraising money I will purchase plants to plant in the empty flower beds to make the park bloom again.”
