The housing market is officially back open today with estate agents in Southport eager to help buyers, sellers, property owners and those renting get moving again.

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has told estate agents in the UK that they can reopen immediately, although they are being urged to use online viewings.

Removal firms have been told that they too can get back to work. Construction companies will be allowed to extend their working hours to help with social distancing on sites.

An estimated 450,000 buyers and renters have been in limbo since the Government effectively shut down the property market in late March.

Mark Cunningham, owner of Anthony James sales & lettings in Southport, said:

“It is great news for the economy and we will need to be projecting as an industry that we are delighted but we are mindful that safety for our customers and staff still remains our number one priority.

“After Sunday’s announcement we would like to confirm the team at Anthony James will continue working from home to save lives. We are able to work for our clients safely from home and will continue to do so. Our office will remain closed.

“We are still here for virtual viewings, valuations, property advice and more! If you would like to market your property for sale or rent safely and responsibly give Jacqui a call on 01704 550 048.

“We will know more when our regulators and trading standards confirm accepted procedure for viewings and property valuations.

“Stay safe. The AJ Team.”

Robert Jenrick said: “The housing market is one of the most important sectors of the economy and the ability to move home is also important to people’s lives.

‘“t has been totally frozen, but we have been working hard on a comprehensive plan to get it moving safely again and we are now in a position to enable a complete reopening of the housing market.”

The ban on moving house is being lifted today for the first time since March 26.

Estate agents are urged to make use of ‘virtual viewings’ online wherever possible.

Councils have been told to allow construction sites to operate until 9pm, six days a week – unless there are ‘compelling reasons’ otherwise.
