Pupils at King George V sixth form college in Southport and Southport College are being urged to continue with learning from home after Boris Johnson announced the easing of some coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
The Prime Minister said that schools should prepare to begin to open for more pupils from 1 June.This would be for very young children in nurseries and pre-schools, and primary school children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 – albeit with smaller class sizes.
From June, secondary schools and further education colleges in England should also prepare to begin some face-to-face contact with Year 10 and 12 pupils, who have key exams next year.

KGV College and Southport College Principal Michelle Brabner said: “Following the Prime Minister’s statement on Sunday night, I just wanted to confirm that we are continuing with home learning for now and students should continue to engage with their tutors online as they have been doing.
“In accordance with government guidance, we are working on plans for when we can return to the sites and how we will maintain social distancing when we do so, and as soon as I know more, I will share these with you.
“In the meantime, whilst the college buildings may be closed, please be assured that all our teaching and support staff are still here for you and we are committed to ensuring that all of you, whether current or future students have the positive learning experience you need to realise your dreams and ambitions.”
