Staff at Lings on Kings restaurant in Southport have thanked farmers at Diglake Farm in Scarisbrick during their Superhero Sunday initiative

Farmers have been given a special thank you for keeping people fed during the coronavirus outbreak.

Staff from the Lings On Kings in Southport treated the people at Diglake Farm to a very special Chinese banquet yesterday.

It was the fourth in the restaurant’s series of Superhero Sundays, with other recipients so far including two visits to Southport and Formby District General Hospital and a trip to Southport Fire Station.

Lings On Kings owner Ling Lam said: “This was our fourth Southport Superhero Sunday, where every Sunday one of our local superheroes will be treated to a free meal on us!

Hospitals urge people to write to lonely patients to help them recover

“This week we visited Diglake Farm on the A570 Southport Road in Scarisbrick, towards Ormskirk.

“A big thank you to all our British farmers for keeping us supplied with fresh fruit and vegetables all year round. They also sell meat products, eggs and so much more.”

Speaking on the Lings On Kings Facebook page, Sharon Riley said: “This place is fantastic. Quality produce, great prices, organised safety / social distancing and fabulous service. An absolute lifeline.”

Ling Lam said: “Stuart, one of our staff here, came up with the idea as he does a lot of charity work for our local community. When he told me I thought it was a fantastic idea to give something back to our heroes in this unprecedented time.

“Who should it be next week? Care home workers? Other local heroes? Please let us know.
