England Rugby head coach Eddie Jones

England Rugby head coach Eddie Jones has sent a very special message to the young players at Southport Rugby Football Club on their annual awards night.

Urging the importance of ‘discipline’ during the coronavirus lockdown, which saw the club’s seasons at various levels curtailed, Mr Jones hoped to see the players back on the Waterloo Road rugby pitches soon.

In the video, he said: “Eddie Jones here, for the Southport Juniors and Minis.

“I hope you are having a great presentation. I know you would rather be together and having a few sausage rolls and meat pies but you have to have it at home guys.

“So the importance of being disciplined now, is massive, as it is in rugby.

“It won’t be long before you are back on the rugby field so enjoy the night. Cheers.”

A spokesman for Southport RUFC said: “Thanks to England Head Coach, Eddie Jones for the surprise visit to the virtual Southport Rugby Football Club mini and junior awards!

“Congratulations to all involved for an excellent season, albeit shorter than expected. Bring on 2020/21!”

Eddie Jones, an Australian rugby union coach and former player, has been the head coach of the England national team since 2015, leading to the Rugby World Cup Final last year. He previously coached Australia between 2001 and 2005, taking the team to the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final.
