The amazing catering teams at Southport Hospital have been praised for keeping doctors, nurses and patients fed during the Coronavirus crisis.
New figures have emerged that show that eight people with Covid-19 have now died at Southport and Ormskirk hospitals since the outbreak began, with staff working through unprecedented conditions in a bid to save people’s lives.
Among those keeping everyone going during these challenging times are all those working in the hospital kitchens at all hours.
A Southport Hospital spokesman said: “It’s not only an army that marches on its stomach! Our brilliant catering teams served 2,638 meals in the first three days of a Covid pandemic complementary restaurant service for Trust staff.

“A massive thank you to catering admin teams, catering assistants, chefs, and team leaders.”
Southport Hospital’s chief nurse meanwhile is appealing for retired nurses and allied health professionals to return to work and help in the fight against Covid-19.
Bridget Lees, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Therapies at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, said many retired colleagues have already shown an interest in going back to practice since she returned to the Trust in February.

She said: “Talking to many of you, you’re interested in returning because nursing is a profession which we are, not something we simply do.
“The Trust is offering an extensive programme of retraining to help ease retired colleagues back into the workforce.
“Your support and knowledge is needed more than ever as we keep local people safe from the coronavirus.”
