Bin collections in Southport and across the borough will continue amidst the Coronavirus outbreak.

But local residents showing any symptoms are being urged to take care when disposing of their waste.

A spokesman for Sefton Council said: “We have business continuity plans in place to ensure essential services, such as refuse and recycling, continue for our communities.

“We are also utilising members of our street cleansing teams to assist with other refuse collection services.

“We would also like to ask any residents who are self-isolating to ensure they dispose of any used tissues or hygiene products in a double bag and present it for collection within their grey bins as normal.

“There is no need to arrange for a clinical waste collection for this type of waste.”
