Staff at C.H. Lathams the Bakers in Southport

A family-run bakers which has been keeping Southport families fed throughout the Coronavirus outbreak is temporarily closing its doors today.
While shelves in supermarkets across Southport have been stripped of bread and other essential supplies, staff at C.H. Latham the Bakers have been working around the clock to make sure families are fed.
To cope with huge demand in recent days, their bakers have been starting work at 1am, making and baking bread, so it would be fresh in the shops by 8.30am.
They said: “The numbers have increased so hopefully no-one will be disappointed.”
But they have now taken the tough decision that today will be their last day of trading – for now.
They said: “During these unprecedented times following Mr Johnson’s advice, and due to many of our staff being on the frontline, we have made the difficult, but we believe to be the right decision, to close our shops and bakery until further notice.

“We will close our shops on Saturday 28th March.
“We thank our customers and wholesale customers for staying with us through this difficult time.
“We will of course be selling our full range of products on Saturday.
“Thank you and stay safe.”
C.H. Latham the Bakers is very much a hands-on craft bakery making their products the traditional way since 1967, when it was founded by Chris Latham at the age of 21.
C.H. Latham the Bakers has now grown into five shops in Birkdale, Churchtown, Crossens, Oak Street and Tarleton.
The main Bakery in Oak Street is formed of two semi-detached houses which have been developed along the years with growth of the business.
