A Northern train which operates on the line between Southport and Manchester

Rail passengers travelling between Southport, Manchester and Blackburn will see a reduced service this Sunday.

But British Transport Police officers will be patrolling the trains to make sure that only people with the right reasons are on board.

Northern has released details of its amended timetable for this Sunday (5 April).

A Northern spokesman said: “The impact of coronavirus continues to be felt across the rail industry and, in response to this, Northern has had to reduce the number of services it operates on Sundays.

“Those trains which are still running are intended to help key workers get where they need to be at the weekend.
