Too many people are driving on Southport’s roads while others are visiting homes when they shouldn’t be.
The concerns were raised by Sefton Police today after the Government extended the coronavirus lockdown period for another three weeks.
A police spokesman said: “There is concern that more traffic is being seen on the roads and we continue to get calls about people not of the same family gathering at homes.
“Please remember you should not be visiting, or being visited by anyone that does not live at your home address, to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.”
And officers urged the public to stay home in a bid to save lives.
They said: “We now face another three weeks or more of ‘lockdown’ in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. It remains as important as ever that we all play whatever part we can, to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus, by continuing to follow the Government instructions to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

“The only reasons you should leave your home are:
1: shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
2: one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
3: any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
4: travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home
“We are grateful to all who have followed the instructions so far.”
They did however add that they have been impressed by some of the things they have seen.
“Throughout this time however, we have seen many acts of kindness and support from individuals and groups, to help those more vulnerable in our communities.
