Seven more people with Covid-19 have died at Southport Hospital and Ormskirk Hospital.

The tragedies take the total number of coronavirus fatalities at the Trust to 62.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Sefton is now 532, with 939 in Liverpool and 1,692 in Lancashire.

The figures were revealed ahead of this afternoon’s Government Cobra meeting and Downing Street briefing, where it is believed that the current period of lockdown may be extended. 

The UK announced 861 more deaths from the coronavirus today, taking the total number of victims to 13,729. In another dark milestone Britain has now officially diagnosed more than 100,000 people with the virus – making it only the sixth country in the world to do so.

But the rising number of cases remains stable, with 4,618 positive tests in 24 hours.

Elsewhere in Merseyside, the number of new deaths of coronavirus patients continued to remain fairly low in today’s latest update.

In Liverpool, the city recorded seven new deaths, bringing the total number to 195.

185 of the city’s coronavirus deaths have occurred at the Royal Liverpool Trust – which covers the Royal, Aintree and Broadgreen hospitals.

There have been five deaths at the smaller Liverpool Heart and Chest Trust and five at the Walton Centre for neurology.

After a couple of days with no new recorded covid-19 deaths, Wirral’s numbers have risen.

12 further deaths recorded by the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals Trust takes its overall total to 112.

St Helens and Knowsley Hospital Trust registered today’s biggest spike in numbers across Merseyside. The Trust’s figures have continued to rise steadily of late, and 14 further deaths registered today mean its total now stands at 85.
