A Southport supermarket which has seen staff suffer aggressive behaviour from some customers has been blessed by a local church.
The Sainsbury’s store on Bispham Road in High Park was visited by The Community Church , based on Ash Street, in a bid to try and ensure some more pleasant days ahead for the unsung heroes working there.
Staff have faced difficult times at a time when restrictions have been placed on some goods during the coronavirus pandemic.
A Church spokesman said: “We heard how the staff have, on a number of occasions, encountered aggressive behaviour from customers frustrated at restrictions and there have been moments when the store has had to call the police.
The Community Church in Southport has blessed the Saisnburys store in High park in Southport
“We decided to send a Blessing Basket, full of treats for the staff room, to express our appreciation to some of the many unsung heroes of this Covid-19 crisis who are working in our supermarket sector.”
The generous gesture was welcomed by members of the church.
Speaking on their Facebook page James Hardiker said: “It was received by a very appreciated staff team who all sent their heartfelt thanks for such a kind gesture. Thank you.”
Debbie Caolan said: “That’s such a shame that customers have been aggressive. The staff deserve a Blessing!”
