Staff at Fylde Fish Bar in Marshside in Soutport, taken before lockdown

An 89-year-old man whose weekly treat was fish and chips is delighted that his favourite chippy is back open again!

The pensioner loved his chippy tea so much he looked forward to heading to Fylde Fish Bar every week for it.

But with the arrival of the coronavirus closure, the Government ordered the Fylde Fish Bar chippies in Marshside, Birkdale and Burscough to close, along with restaurants, bars, cafes and shops across the UK.

But this week Fylde’s owners Banico and Jodie Zeniou have revealed that they are back open again – much to the delight of their number one fan!

They received a message which said: “Just want to say a massive thank you!

“We are protecting my 89-year-old dad who lives with us, he has been fine but has been missing his fish and chips.

“He used to go to your shop on his mobility scooter, as well as getting takeaways, and it was his weekly treat.

“I only found out today that you are doing deliveries, so I have the 12.30pm slot booked as a surprise for him.

“You are contributing to keeping people happy with takeaway treats so thank you again, you are doing a sterling job.

“I can’t wait to see my Dad’s face when his fish and chips are delivered!

“Keep safe and pass on our thanks to all of your staff.”

Fylde Fish Bar runs chippies on: Fylde Road, in Marshside, Southport; Weld Road, in Birkdale, Southport; and Ringtail Estate in Burscough.

Owners Banico and Jodie Zeniou said: “We really do miss our customers, it’s so lovely to know that we are going to make lots of our customers happy to be able to eat our food again!

“Please send us photos over the coming days of you enjoying your food as it does really make us happy.”

Fylde fish bar is working with local travel firm MD Travel to operate a special new delivery menu.

They are starting with a smaller menu which will allow them to learn how to optimise in this current situation.

Banico and Jodie Zeniou said: “Please bear with us and we will adapt the menu over the coming weeks. We are not asking customers if they want salt and vinegar on the food. This is to keep the food crispy and hot when it arrives to you and will be much better quality if you add it yourself at home.

“We are so pleased to be working with a local travel company MD travel who will bring the food to you and are supporting us with our deliveries. Thanks guys and enjoy your Fylde delivery! Long live fish and chips!”
