A staggering 53 double decker buses worth of green waste has been collected by hard working Sefton Council cleansing teams in just one day.
During the recent Bank Holiday Monday collection round, cleansing operatives from Sefton Council collected over 687 tonnes of garden waste from homes across the borough, which is the equivalent of more than 53 double decker buses.
The staggering amount collected in just a single day is one of the highest the council have ever seen since it started a green waste collection service over 15 years ago in 2005.
Unlike a number of other authorities, Sefton has resisted suspending the collection of green waste, understanding the increased demand while many residents turn to their garden as a means of keeping themselves occupied during the life saving lockdown measures to tackle Covid-19.

Cllr John Fairclough, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Locality Services said: “This is one of, it not the highest daily totals we have had in the 15 years Sefton have provided the service.
“We recognise that those of us lucky enough to have a garden are spending more time in them and will likely have more green waste as a result.
“Our thanks must go to the fantastic and incredibly hard working refuse and recycling collection crews who are working so hard to make sure your refuse is collected efficiently.
“In the last few weeks our cleansing and refuse crews have had to adapt to a difficult situation and have done so with incredible professionalism and determination.”
Sefton Council are maintaining the highest standards of safety for our collection crews and will continue to do so to ensure all our workers are protected.
All garden waste is delivered to Sefton Council’s partner composting company SED Services, with it then being processed into quality composting material.
