People in Southport have been issued with advice after the first Cornavirus case was confirmed in Sefton.
Health officials will not confirm where in Sefton the person affected is from, but have urged people to all ‘play our part’ in helping to stop the spread of any infection.
Matt Ashton, Director of Public Health for Sefton, said: “We can confirm that a case of COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, has been confirmed in the borough.
“This case is linked to a known case.
“We understand that this may cause concern, but we want to reassure residents that we are continuing to work closely with Public Health England, the NHS and all our health and care partners to prevent further spread of the virus.

“Due to patient confidentiality, the exact locations and details of this case cannot be published. We continue to stress the importance of regular hand washing to residents.
“We all have a part to play in preventing the spread of all infections, including COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
“You should always take steps to reduce the spread of germs by catching your sneezes in a tissue, binning used tissues, then washing your hands.
“We already have strategic and operational groups in place and meeting regularly, with key partners round the table, to review the COVID-19 situation at all levels to ensure that we take the necessary steps to protect the health and wellbeing of people who live, work and visit Sefton.”
