People are being warned about the dangers of Coronavirus

People in Southport are being urged to play their part in stopping the spread of Coronavirus in our town.

It follows the news yesterday of the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Sefton.

Sefton Council say they are working tirelessly to ensure residents across the borough are aware of what they can do to help stop the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The COVID-19 situation is a nationally led event, and therefore Sefton Council are working closely with Public Health England (PHE) and NHS partners to follow the national guidance issued by the Department of Health and Social Care.

Sefton are now asking everyone to ensure they are fully up to date with latest national advice and to help prevent the spread of germs and infections by carrying out good hygiene practices.

Cllr Ian Maher, Leader of Sefton Council, said: “We are working very hard to make sure our communities are resilient and informed enough to be able to cope should coronavirus come to the borough.

“We all have a part to play in preventing the spread of all infections, including Coronavirus.

“You should always take steps to reduce the spread of germs by catching your sneezes in a tissue, binning used tissues, then washing your hands.

“We have strategic and operational groups in place and meeting regularly, with key partners round the table, to review the COVID-19 situation at all levels to ensure that we take the necessary steps to protect the health and wellbeing of people who live, work and visit the Borough.”

Specific guidance on general hygiene, health, travel, symptoms and more has been produced by the Department for Health and Social Care and Public Health England and continues to be updated as required.
